POLYSTYRENE CRYSTAL

Description

The crystal polystyrene is a thermoplastic styrenic family. It is used for yoghurt pots, optical diffusers, medical articles. Food grade, it is transparent and rigid. It is against brittle, electrostatic and has poor resistance to gasoline and UV.

Process

The PS is shaped mainly by injection molding, extrusion and thermoforming. It decorates and stains easily. It is possible to realize a metallization or a mirror effect.

Sensorial aspect

Clear and bright, it is hard and warm to the touch and a metallic sound.

Technical summary

Medium mechanical properties, the PS outfits UV, fire and scratch rather poor.

POLYPROPYLENE

Description

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic in the polyolefin family, developed in 1957 by Montecatini. It is used for many different materials such as bags, films, piping, cups and bottles as well as in the field of toys. PP is a food quality denomination and has good chemical suits, thermal and flexural tender quality for making hinges. Welding and bonding are difficult. It is sensitive to UV, modified, it acquires a wide variety of qualities. Include polypropylene in two forms: Homopolymer and Copolymer. Copolymers qualities are preferred for a process in cold conditions. The homopolymer form is harder and resistant to survive in higher temperatures.

Used in conventional implementations techniques: injection, extrusion, coating. Polypropylene is difficult to glue, to solder ,but is easily to color.

With medium mechanical properties and outfits to fire, UV and scratch average , PP is used on a broad range of temperatures. Good elastic properties.
